Two motorcycles that were stolen from owners in Kigali and Nyagatare district have been recovered in Bugesera and Burundi respectively.
Two people behind stealing of the motorcycle in Nyagatare were also arrested red-handed in Bugesera and currently detained at Nyamata Police Station.
The recovery of the second motorcycle in Burundi was possible due to partnership and exchange of information between the two Police forces, Assistant Commissioner of Police Tony Kuramba, Commissioner for Interpol, said.
One of the victims, Fabien Niyigena, a resident of Gikondo Sector in Kicukiro District, came to Rwanda National Police headquarters on January 14, just to thank the force for bringing back his motorcycle, the least he expected.
"My motorcycle was stolen in December last year, and I had lost hope. But I couldn't believe my ears when Police called and informed me that they had located and intercepted it in Burundi," said Niyigena.
“You can't imagine how happy and grateful I am now. This is why I have come here to express my heartfelt gratitude to Rwanda National Police,” the joyful Niyigena added.
He advised fellow taxi motorcyclists to always report to Police in time in case of such incidences to help in timely response.
ACP Kuramba thanked their counterparts of Burundi for the good working relations which has produced positive results especially in responding to cross-border crime.
"Providing us with information in time is crucial to also help us respond in time and recover stolen or missing equipment," said ACP Kuramba.
