The boxer motorcycle, plate number RD 345A, was stolen on November 7, from the parking lot of Visitor Guest House in Nyagatare town, where the rightful owner identified as William Gasasira, had parked it.
It was recovered following the arrest of two suspected thieves identified as Jean Pierre Sindayiheba, 35 and Eric Iradukunda, in Giti Sector of Gicumbi District.
Chief Inspector of Police (CIP) Alexis Rugigana, the Police spokesperson for the Northern region, said that the two suspects were reported by suspecting residents, after they saw them looking for the buyer.
Sindayiheba is the prime suspect, who stole the motorcycle in the early morning of November 7, and hid it in Iradukunda's house located in Gicumbi, Giti Sector in Tanda Cell.
"Police in Bukure received information from residents about two men, who were looking for someone to buy a motorcycle.
What raised suspicions and pushed the residents to call the Police is that these two men were going around looking for the buyer and even using brokers, for the motorcycle that was nowhere to be seen," CIP Rugigana said.
He added: "The Police station of Bukure responded to the call, arrested the two suspects in the morning of November 12, and impounded the motorcycle.
Bukure Police station had no reports of any stolen motorcycle but after the arrest, Sindayiheba provided all the details and that is how Gasasira, the rightful owner, was located through the DPU of Nyagatare, and informed of the recovery of his motorcycle and the arrest of the suspected thieves."
The suspects were handed over to Rwanda Investigation Bureau (RIB) at Bukure station.
The spokesperson thanked the residents, who raised their suspicions, which facilitated the recovery of the stolen motorcycle and arrest of the suspected thieves.
He urged young people to work hard instead of engaging in such criminal tendencies, which lead to imprisonment.
