Police operation recovers more stolen electronics in Nyarugenge

Two television sets (48 inches) and several other gadgets were recovered September 30 in an ongoing Rwanda National Police (RNP) operation against theft and nigh house break-ins in particular.

One person, Pascal Niyomugabo, said to be behind the theft of the recovered items was also arrested in Nyamirambo, Nyarugenge District, Police said.

Also recovered include two mobile phones (Blackberry and an Iphone), Ipad, passport, driving licence, car keys and banking tools stolen from a Chinese national.

The bag containing the Chinese belongings was stolen on September 29 at Cercle Sportif De Kigali, where he had apparently gone swimming.

According to Supt. Modeste Mbabazi, the Police Spokesperson for Central Region, the victims were quick to report the theft incidents, which facilitated timely recovery and arrest of the main suspect.

“When we received the case, investigations started immediately. I must say its success was largely due to the public, who provided credible information that led the officers to the house of the main suspect in Nyamirambo, where the equipment were recovered,” said Supt. Mbabazi.

“It is evident that police-public partnership is very beneficial in overcoming crime and we continue to urge residents to work with security organs in fighting and preventing crimes.”

He reminded that varied police operations conducted in parts of Kigali had recovered an assortment of electronics which are stored at Kigali Metropolitan Police Headquarters in Remera, where rightful owners can collect them.
