Police officers urged to be active in Umuganda

Rwanda National Police join the rest of Rwandans in a monthly community work locally known as Umuganda with a call for the officers to be active in the home-grown development initiative.

In Kigali, officers cleared shrubs in Kacyiru, Gasabo district while in the countryside officers joined residents in districts to rehabilitate roads connecting villages and business centres and also cleared shrubs in various places.

Chief Supt. Simon Mukama, the Commandant of the Police General Headquarters located in Kacyiru urged the officers, shortly after the monthly community exercise, to always be active in all development activities like Umuganda.

This, he said, will also supplement the force’s community policing initiatives and crime prevention in general.

He noted that Rwanda National Police also has a responsibility of furthering the country’s development agenda by working and supporting community development through various initiatives.

“The role of Police goes beyond ensuring safety of people living in Rwanda and their property to being part of the development by working and supporting community development and being active in such home-grown development programmes in particular,” CSP Mukama said.
