50 Police officers have this Monday 15, started a 5 day Gender Based Violence and case handling training at Rwanda National Police headquarters in Kacyiru.
The officers were drawn from different Police Units across the country.
During the 5 days, participants will be taken through key lessons such as; Gender and Human rights, law of evidence and proper handling of physical evidence, combating corruption and human resource development in RNP.
The training was organized by Rwanda National Police and funded by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP).
While presiding over the official launch of the training, Chief Superintendent, Baltheremy Rugwizangoga, the acting Human Resource and Management Commissioner in Rwanda National Police said, Gender Based Violence (GBV), is a serious security threat which requires that Police Officers acquire skills in order to be able to professionally address it.
He reminded that Rwanda is being recognized on the globe as a country that has managed to address GBV and related issues.
CSP Rugwizangoga noted that RNP recognizes training of its personnel as a key priority for the force to professionally address GBV and other security issues in the country.
He urged the officers to take the course seriously to ensure they acquire the knowledge and skills that will enable them to effectively address the vice.
Superintendent Pélagie Dusabe, the Director of Gender Promotion in RNP, explained that the course aims at equipping participants with skills in order to efficiently and effectively execute their routine duties in their respective Units.
