Police officers start anti-GBV training

Forty seven Police officers started five-day training in detecting, fighting and preventing of gender-based violence related crimes.

The training is part of the Rwanda National Police strategies to capacitate officers in addressing policing challenges effectively.

Chief Superintendent Vincent Sano, Commissioner for Human Resources Management and Development in RNP, while officially opening the course, urged participants to pay attention to the proceedings to acquire more skills, which will help them to fulfill their day-to-day tasks effectively.

“Such training is crucial because it gives more skills and knowledge to beneficiaries, including best methods of how effectively to detect and prevent GBV cases,” CSP Sano said.

“This is a way of enhancing the Rwanda National Police strategies of preventing crimes instead of dealing with the consequences of crimes,” he added.

Crime prevention is one of the priorities of the RNP.

Among the topics to be covered during the five-day exercise are how to strengthen the community policing strategy in crime prevention, role of Police in peacekeeping operations, how Isange One Stop centre operates, family planning.
