Police officers attached to nine anti-gender based violence medical and legal wings - Isange One Stop centres - situated in various hospitals in the country were trained on how to handle gender-related cases.
The three-day training of the gender focal points started on Thursday at Kacyiru Police hospital.
"The training is focused on evidence based investigations in relation to gender based violence, child abuse cases, victim reception and customer care, advanced GBV and forensic investigations, charges and evidence in GBV cases under Rwandan law," Chief Inspector of Police Modest Gasore, said.
This is the second training of its kind.
CIP Gasore said similar courses will also be conducted to train more officers in handling gender-based cases.
Inspector of Police Beatrice Uwizeyimana, a gender focal point in Nyagatare said they receive at least 30 cases of GBV monthly.
She said the big turn up is due to awareness campaigns where victims now understand their rights.
