Police officers donate blood

Police officers working at Rwanda National Police (RNP) General Headquarters in Kacyiru, on Saturday, donated blood to boost the National Centre for Blood Transfusion (NCBT).

The voluntary blood donation came after the monthly communal work--Umuganda--which brought together Police officers operating at the General Headquarters.

The humanitarian act was presided over by Rwanda Biomedical Centre  (RBC) and it falls with the formal partnership between the two institutions entered into in 2017, to partner in matters related to health and security.

Andre Munyemana from RBC thanked RNP as an institution and Police officers in particular for their 'continued sacrifice" to save people in many aspects including those in need of blood transfusion.

"We unexpectedly received a big number of blood donors today; it rained the whole morning but this didn't stop the committed officers to brave the rain to come and donate blood," Munyemana said.

"Even a unit of blood can save a life, every Police officer, who donated blood today or even before has saved someone."

"This is a voluntary life-saving act that everyone should embrace to save accident victims, mothers who lose a lot of blood while giving birth, children, relatives and friends who will need blood to live."

It is the third time this year that RNP officers at all ranks have engaged in blood donation exercise.

RNP maintains that safety is a wide aspect to include physical security and public security-related healthcare, including having enough blood in the bank to save those in need.
