About 100 Police officers attached to the Rapid Response Force (SIF), on January 8, donated blood as part of the Rwanda National Police (RNP) to support the national blood bank.
The exercise was headed by Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Bertin Mutezintare the Commanding Officer (CO) of SIF.
According to Rwanda Biomedical Center (RBC), the officers donated about 100 liters of blood.
ACP Mutezintare thanked the officers under his command for turning up in big number for the voluntary humanitarian act, and urged them to make it a cultural practice.
"Security evolves in many aspects and donating blood to save lives also falls in our values of human security," the CO said.
He reiterated that such activities will continue to also reach other officers of SIF, who were out on duty.
The voluntary exercise is in line with the Memorandum of Understanding between RNP and Rwanda Biomedical Centre, signed in March last year.
About 2000 Police officers have since donated blood.
The agreement also focuses on fighting against illicit drugs, sexual and gender based violence; mental health interventions; prevention and detection of fraud and public funds embezzlement in healthcare agencies, among others.
