Police officers complete 'Supervisory Course'

A group of 37 Police Officers on May 8, completed a four months supervisory Course at the National Police College (NPC) in Musanze District, aimed at improving their skills and knowledge to perform their duties more diligently.

During the four months training, officers covered a range of policing related lessons including; law studies, peace support operations, command and control, community policing among others.

Participants of the Supervisory Course were drawn from different Police Units across the country.

Commissioner of Police (CP), Felix Namuhoranye, the Commandant of NPC, lauded the enthusiasm and commitment to learn demonstrated by the officers, adding that such training is necessary to ensure that officers' skills are upgraded to match with the modern times.

He noted that, Rwanda National Police recognizes capacity building as an ultimate tool to professionalism and thus ensuring policing challenges are dealt with, in a more effective manner.

"RNP ensures that the officers are well equipped,  well trained and have necessary knowledge on how to overcome crime in Rwandan communities. These trainings are geared towards achieving that goal, as RNP continues to focus on quality service delivery and professional," he said.

CP Namuhoranye further urged trainees to put to use the skills they acquired from the training in order to help the force achieve its goals of maintaining law and order.

Superintendent Gerald Habiyambere, who spoke on behalf of the course participants, commended RNP for offering them the opportunity to get new skills and knowledge, which are a requirement for carrying out successful anti-crime operations.

“Policing in the modern days requires that the officers get the necessary skills to be able to deter and prevent crimes before they actually occur”, said Superintendent Habiyambere.

"We shall endeavor to uphold the image of Police and work with citizens to ensure maximum safety of lives and property."

RNP manages three training schools and also partners with both local and international institutions to offer both theoretical and practical lessons on different security topics in a bid to reinforce security in and beyond borders.
