Forty-five Police officers, Saturday, completed a three-day Training of Trainer (ToT) course in sports.
The training held at the Rwanda National Police (RNP) General Headquarters in Kacyiru falls under the force's efforts to promote healthy sports and sports development in the country in general.
Sport is also used as a policing tool to bring police officers and communities together for the common cause.
During the three-day training, the officers were taken through varied sport disciplines such as role of sports in policing, introduction to sports, collective sports, fundamental skills of handball, athletics rules and regulations, and volleyball practices.
Other sports related areas covered include history of sports, hygiene, nutrition and injury prevention.
Supt. Thierry Munanura, the Director for Welfare and Sports in RNP, urged the trainees to use the acquired skills to promote sports in their respective units, and to further drive the ideology of proactive policing.
“Athleticism helps to keep a healthy body, instills discipline, teamwork and hard work, which are also crucial in policing and a tool for mobilisation and transmitting the intentended message," Supt. Munanura observed.
RNP, Supt. Munanura said, attaches more value to sports to promote a health living including physical fitness.
Chief Inspector of Police (CIP) Vasco Butera, one of the trainees, said the training widened their understanding on the impact of sports in policing.
“As law enforcers, we're required to always be healthy and fit, and ball has been put in our hands to further drive the sports agenda in Police," Butera said.
