Police officers commended for South Sudan mission

The Inspector General of Police (IGP), Emmanuel K. Gasana, on July 29, met the eighteen Police officers who returned home last week after a successful one year United Nations Mission in South Sudan (UNAMISS) and commended them for their discipline and professional services in their peacekeeping activities.

The contingent of Individual Police Officers (IPOs) headed by Supt. Venant Rubayiza include fourteen females.

They served as mentors and advisers to the local police force especially in the areas of anti-gender and domestic violence.

During a debriefing at the Rwanda National Police headquarters in Kacyiru, the IGP thanked them for being “good ambassadors” and maintaining the “Rwandan pride and spirit” and keeping the flag high.

He appealed to them to apply and share the multinational acquired experience with other officers in their deployments.

“You learned more, gained a lot and have to share more,” he observed.

IGP Gasana appealed to the officers to be good citizens and good Police officers by exhibiting high level of professionalism.

He further urged them to serve their country and the force well with discipline by upholding the force’s values.

Rwanda maintains about 380 police officers in eight peacekeeping missions, namely; Mali, South Sudan, Ivory Coast, Abyei, Haiti, Liberia, Darfur and Sierra Leone.
