Fifty Police officers charged with promoting gender equality in the Rwanda National Police departments and units and fighting gender violence met at the force’s headquarters in Kacyiru on April 3 to share best practices and lay strategies against work challenges.
The consultative meeting of the Gender Focal Point Officers and Women network representatives in the force also aimed at laying strategies to further promote gender equality in the force and to strengthen campaign against gender-based crimes.
The Inspector General of Police, Emmanuel K. Gasana, while speaking to the officers, urged them to investigate and address gender violence cases in their respective areas of operation, effectively.
He asked them to be disciplined officers with integrity while upholding the values of the force and the country in general.
“This is an opportunity for officers in charge of promoting gender equality to meet, share best practices, and lay strategies to overcome work challenges,” Supt. Pelagie Dusabe, the Director of Gender Promotion in the force, said.
Shared best practices, experience, skills and knowledge, she added, enable the officers to improve on the quality of their services regarding fighting gender-related crimes and promote equality in their respective units and public.
The officers also praised the force leadership for allowing female officers to operate in areas of their families.
