The Rwanda National Police joined over 130 members of Youth Unity Rwanda to participate in community work, Umuganda which included paving and slashing bushy areas around Rubilizi and Busanza in Kanombe sector of Kicukiro district.
A distance of 3km was paved and bushes around were cleared.
The club has an aspiration to mobilize youth into activities that help in developing the country.
Alex Mwabutsa, in charge of Social Affairs in Kanombe sector thanked the Rwanda National Police for its partnership and lauded the youth for having chosen Kanombe for their community service.
Mwabutsa called on the youth to adhere more with such development activities rather than be engulfed in illegal and self desructing activities like drug abuse and theft.
Domique Rwomushana the National Coordinator of Youth Unity Rwanda, added that this event had a theme (Rubyuruko ba ingesho mu kurinda ibyagezweho), loosely translated into “Youth must protect the country’s progress”
This event also attracted university students from Kigali Institute of science and technology (KIST), Kigali Institute of Management (KIM) Kigali Independent University (ULK), Institute of Lay Adventist of Kigali and Integrated Polytechnic.
Inspector of Police Robert Komire urged the youth and Rubilizi residents to watch out for strangers who promise better job offers in foreign countries, yet all they want is to traffic the youth into inhumane and dangerous activities.
IP Komire challenged the youth from other parts of the country to emulate the good practices of Youth Unity Rwanda instead of involving in drugs which breed consequences that retard economic transformation.
Residents in the area lauded police for topping up on maintaining law and order by carrying out national development activities like community service, which bring about social development and help Police officers to interact with the community.
