Police joins communities in Umuganda

Rwanda National Police (RNP) continues to work with communities across the country in the monthly communal work commonly known as Umuganda.

Officers deployed throughout the country rolled up their sleeves in to participate in activities like tree planting, slashing overgrown grass, clearing pavements to further cement the Umuganda activity as a crucial home grown factor that supplements community development, promotes patriotism and partnership in initiatives that ensure the country's transformation.

The exercise was followed by discussions as officers engaged residents in community safety and security issues.

At the RNP Headquarters in Kacyiru, Deputy Inspector General of Police in charge of Administration and Personnel, Juvenal Marizamunda led officers in clearing water channels and slashing shrubs in and around the headquarters.

After the activity, police officers took a moment to engage residents on the challenges affecting their communities and sought for a collective response to address these challenges.

Officers highlighted that by working together with Police as exhibited through Umuganda, residents will cement their role in protecting their societies against criminality and its adverse effects.

Crimes such as drug abuse, human trafficking, gender-based-violence and burglary, are some of the crimes that Community Policing has had a tremendous impact in overcoming.

Residents were also urged to continue providing timely information to help in fighting crime, while also being cautious about suspicious people in society who promote lawlessness and criminality.
