Police in Nyamasheke district, on July 28 recovered some 2,480 liters of diesel believed to have been stolen from “China Road and Bridge Corporation”, a Chinese construction company.
According to the Western Province police spokesperson, Inspector of Police (IP) Théobald Kanamugire, the allegedly stolen diesel was found on a boat in Lake Kivu, in Ntango Cell of Nyabitekeri sector.
The stolen diesel was found packed in 123 jerricans. Rwanda National Police immediately initiated investigation to arrest suspects who are still at large.
Preliminary investigation by Police reveals that people behind theft of diesel were planning to ship it to the neighbouring countries where they would easily sell it off.
“China Road and Bridge Corporation reported a suspected robbery that made us mount an immediate search – we found the diesel aboard a board,” Kanamugire said.
IP Kanamugire commended residents who availed information that led to the interception of the stolen diesel.
“Timely information is what is required of the citizens for Police recover stolen properties and also arrest suspected criminals. This was a great job well done by the residents,’’ said Kanamugire calling for more cooperation.
Rwanda National Police, on July 6, 2015 also recovered 320 liters of diesel, 60 liters of engine oil among other. All these had been stolen from China Road and Bridge Corporation; they were handed over to owner.
