Police in Rulindo District has impounded a Toyota Carina with Number Plate RAB 196M, which was found loaded with 125 liters of banned brew locally known as "kanyanga" and over 50 sachets of a dangerous liquor brand, Chief Waragi.

The car was intercepted in the morning hours of 23 February in Ntarabana Sector; however, the driver sped off before Police could make a search. Police patrol however followed him, but when he realized that he was being trailed, he abandoned the car and fled.

The car and the illicit brew are held at Kajevuba Police Station pending further investigation.

The Police Spokesperson for Northern Province, Chief Inspector of Police, André Hakizimana, said that investigations are underway to apprehend the fugitive and called on the public to provide useful information in this case.

“We are currently searching for the fugitive who was driving the car and we are hopeful that our investigations will be fruitful. We urge anyone with information that can facilitate the investigations to come forward. As you know, through community policing, Police and residents have been able to successfully work together in the maintenance of peace and security," he said.
