Police in Nyarugenge District this Thursday destroyed narcotic drugs which included: 410 liters of illicit local brew commonly known as Muritura and 870 pellets of cannabis.
The event which took place in Agatare Village, Nyamweru Cell in Kanyinya Sector, was witnessed by residents of Agatare and Nyabikoni villages.
The narcotic drugs were seized this week during Police operations conducted in Kanyinya Sector.
Johnson Karangwa, the Kanyinya Executive Secretary urged residents particularly the youth to shun drug abuse noting that drugs are a big enemy to human lives.
He also appealed to parents to play a key role in protecting children from the use of drugs. “Children are the future leaders of this nation. They (children) therefore need to be well nurtured to ensure they turn into competent and responsible citizens that would be relevant to the nation’s development,” said Karangwa.
The Nyarugenge District Police Commander (DPC), Chief Superintendent Dismas Rutaganira, appealed to residents to have ownership in fighting and preventing drug abuse through sharing information with security organs.
Residents who spoke out their minds during the event expressed willingness and commitment to partner Police to ensure that drug abuse is prevented.
