Police Handball Club unveils new players ahead of new season

The record five time national  Handball champions, Police Handball Club have signed three new players as the team prepares to start the new national championship season as well as the Heroes Day tournament.

The players all signed from APR, are Viateur Rwamanywa, Emmanuel Murwanashyaka and Alex Nshimiyimana.

The players were unveiled yesterday at the Rwanda National Police (RNP) General Headquarters in Kacyiru.

The law enforcers are preparing for the Heroes Day tournament slated for February 3rd and 4th, hoping to bounce back after losing the trophy to APR, last year.

They have won the Heroes Day cup four times

Equally, Police Handball club will be looking to reclaim their glory after also losing the 2017 national league championship to APR.

The 2018 national league is scheduled to start on February 17.

While addressing the players and the coaching staff, yesterday, the Commissioner for Human Resource in RNP, Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Barthelemy Rugwinzangoga urged them to refocus and showcase teamwork and winning spirit.

“You're a team known for showcasing good performance and winning trophies, maintain that spirit,” ACP Rugwizangoga said, pledging the RNP continued support.

“We believe the new players will add what the club was missing but it all comes back to individual and collective commitment, good preparation and teamwork to achieve desired results,” he added.

The club head coach, Senior Sgt Dismass Turatsinze, appreciated the RNP support.

Turantsize is the former captain for Police Handball Club, which won the 2014, 2015 and 2016 national championship.

“Our primary focus is to win trophies. The new players are all young, talented and I am sure they will add something in the performance,” Turatsinze said.

Last year, Police Handball Club claimed two trophies; Genocide Memorial and Beach Handball cups.
