Champions for all local tournaments, Police Handball Club are set to depart tomorrow, Thursday, to Nairobi, Kenya to compete in this year’s Eastern and Central African handball championship scheduled to take place from December 6-12 at Nyayo stadium.
Assistant Inspector of Police Antoinne Ntabanganyimana, Police coach said the team prepared well ahead of the 15th edition of the regional tournament in which five countries have so far confirmed participation.
“In general, the local competitions acted as training for us and to prepare ourselves well for this regional championship. All players are in good shape and we are going with a Rwandan spirit and to represent Rwandans in the best way possible. Our focus is to bring the trophy home,” AIP Ntabanganyimana said.
Police won all the six local competitions which are; national league, Labour Day, Memorial and Liberation, Carré d’ AS and Beach Handball cups.
It is the second time Police Handball Club will be participating in this tournament. During their maiden appearance in 2012, held in Tanzania and attracted clubs from seven countries, the law enforcers were fourth.
The countries that have so far confirmed participation include Tanzania, Democratic Republic of Congo, Uganda, South Sudan and hosts, Kenya.
