Police Handball Club set for Heroes’ Day tourney

Police Handball Club coach, Senior Sgt Dismass Turatsinze said all players are in good shape to display a winning performance in the 2018 Heroes’ Day tournament to be played on 3rd and 4th February in Kigali.

The record four-time Heroes’ Day champions were on Wednesday drawn in Group B alongside GS Minyove, GS Aloys and GS De la Salle. All Group B games will be played at Kimisagara Youth Centre.

Eleven men teams will feature in the tournament. Group A features defending champions APR, ES Kigoma and UR-CBE, while Group C include Nyakabanda, College ADEGI, Inkumburwa and UR-Nyagatare Campus.

“It’s the first tournament of the year prior to the start of the 2018 national league championship, and it means a lot to us. We won the two trophies in 2016 but lost both of them last year to APR. We learnt and built on the mistakes we made last season, and we hope this year will be yet another memorable one for us,” Turatsinze said.

Police won almost all the seven local competitions in 2014, 2015 and 2016.

“We bought new players to fix the weak positions and we hope this will help us to revive our glory,” the coach said.

The new players, all signed from APR, are Viateur Rwamanywa, Emmanuel Murwanashyaka and Alex Nshimiyimana
