Police Handball club has maintained the championship lead after thrashing Ecole Secondaire de Kigoma(ESEKI), with a 35-26 victory to remain on top of the table with 13 clean wins.
The Saturday game in Muhanga ensured that Police remains on top of the table although the club’s head coach, Assistant Inspector of Police (AIP) Antoine Ntabanganyimana said that the match seemed tough since it’s the first time Police Handball Club is winning with balls below 60.
“Although the game seemed tough for both teams, we were playing against a team that won the inter-schools championship this year, that’s why we scored less than our normal average of 60,” Ntabanganyimana.
The club’s talismans, Gilbert Mutuyimana and Jean Paul Muhawenayo emerged top scorers with eight scores each.
Police Handball club currently leads the championship table with 39 points. The club runs on an ambitious goal of winning the championship unbeaten and surpasses its last year’s achievements.
The club won all the seven trophies last year. It has now won all trophies in the three handball tournaments played this year.
Coach Ntabangayimana, who also doubles as national handball coach, is currently preparing the national team for forthcoming African Games qualifiers slated for September 4-19 in Congo Brazzaville.
Since its founding in 2003, Police Handball Club staffed its trophy cabinet with 22 trophies, among which include three national league cups, four Heroes Day Tournament, four Liberation Day cups and three Carré d’ AS cups.
