Police Handball Club maintains league glory

Rwanda National Police handball club has retained its league lead after a 49-24 landslide win away in Rubavu against Groupe Scolaire Inyemeramihigo on September 5.

The win that kept Police Handball Club at the top of the table with 48 maximum points, twelve points ahead of second placed APR who have 36 points.

Although both teams still have games in hand, police coach, Sgt Albert Sibomana is confident of retaining the national glory with only four matches left to the end of the league.

“Our players are all in good shape, we are much confident of future wins. We aim to win all our remaining games with a big goal difference because it could be crucial for us to have an unchallengeable record,” said Sibomana.

He added on that Police Handball Club’s major target is to replicate last season’s form where the team won the league unchallenged.

Police Handball Club will now face KIE Handball Club on September 12.

Beside Police and APR Handball clubs, the third on the table is ESEKI Kigoma with 33 points.

“The leadership of Rwanda National Police generously facilitates the team and this why I have challenged my players to perform exceptionally,” Sibomana said.

Police Handball Club has dominated local tournaments, particularly last year where the club scooped all the seven tournaments that were held.

Since its founding in 2003, Police Handball Club staffed its trophy cabinet with 22 trophies, among which include three national league cups, four Heroes Day Tournament, four Liberation Day cups and three Carré d’ AS cup.

Sporting activities are one means through which the force uses to engage the public in community policing and crime prevention in particular, and promoting sports development in the country.
