Defending champions, Police Handball Club kicked off the new season on March 21 in style with an easy 37-24 win over Rwamagana-based, St Aloys away in Rwamagana.
The law enforcers led the scoreline through the match with the first half ending with 19-12. The visitors came back into the second half with more killer instincts netting 18 more before the final whistle.
New signing Jean Paul Muhawenayo was the match top scorer with 10 goals followed by teammates Zachary Tuyishime with 7 while Gilbert Mutuyimana and Norbert Duteteriwacu were tied at 5 each.
Police head coach, AIP Antoinne Ntabanganyimana believes his side has all it takes to defend the trophy which will be their fourth in the five consecutive seasons.
"Players played well with a winning spirit. It is the same determination and hard work which brought seven trophies las season, that players still possess and read to display in each and every match in any competition that we will participate in this season," AIP Ntabanganyimana said shortly after the match.
"We signed six new players including a goalkeeper, Samuel Bananimana to boost our camp and we believe this season will be no deferent from last season," he added.
Last season, Police won all the seven trophies which include the National League, Liberation, Genocide Commemoration, Labour Day, Sulfo Beach, Carre d’AS and Rwanda Cup.
This season, Police has so far claimed one, "Impano N’impamba Cup" they won in January.
Eleven clubs will tussle for the title this season, according to the 2015 season calendar released by Rwanda Handball Federation (FERWAHAND).
Others are Gicumbi, APR, Nyakabanda, College Inyemeramihigo, GS Rambura, College of Education (CE), College of Arts and Social Science (CASS), ES Kigoma and ES Urumuri.
Since its founding in 2003, Police Handball Club staffed its trophy cabinet with 22 trophies, among which include three national league cups, four Heroes Day Tournament, four Liberation Day cups and three Carré d’ AS cup.
Sports is one of the means the force uses to engage the public in community policing and crime prevention in particular, and promoting sports development in the country.
