Police Handball Club finishes season unbeaten

Champions elect Police Handball Club ensured a successful end to their unbeaten season after mastering a 65-25 win over closest rivals APR on Ocotber 10.

Second-placed APR was outmaneuvered at the Kimisagara youth centre seeking by the game’s lead scorer, Jean Paul Muhawenayo, who scored a tally of 11 goals.

Coach Sergent Albert Sibomana’s team won the first round fixture in April at the same venue 17-14.

After the game, Sibomana said that his players are well motivated and determined which ensured that they play perfectly throughout the season.

They are expected to be handed the trophy next Saturday in an event that wil close the national handball league. Outstanding players will also be acknowledged during the event.

The four-time league champions, who have 51 points in 17 matches, are now turning their focus on the upcoming Africa Handball Champions League in Nador, Morocco.

“We are prepared to face other great clubs from other African contries and we are sure that with this motivation and spriti of teamwork, our club will deliver as expected,” coach Sibomana added.

The African Handball Champions League is scheduled for October 21-30. Police are set to fly to Morocco on October 19.

“Our target is to get out of the group, which is very tough however; we have a better squad compared to one we had in 2012. I’m quite confident about our chances of doing well this time round,” he added.

Police has been drawn in Pool A along with Al Ahly (Egypt), Stade Mandji (Gabon), Ittiad (Libya) and Widad (Morocco). Reighning champions - Tunisia’s Club Africain - are in Pool B.
