Police Handball Club closer to sixth league championship

Last Saturday, Police Handball Club maintained their unbeaten season run by overcoming ADEGI Gituza of Gatsibo 35-32.

It was Day 17 of the National Handball Championship making it 51 maximum points to stay at the summit of the 11-team table.

Currently, APR lies second with 48 points, with one match left to the end of the season.

With the only remaining game being between the two usual challengers--Police and APR--it means that the former has to dig deep to prevent last season's last day disappointment when they lost to the latter, thus losing the trophy.

"We remember very well what happened last year and it's a disappointment that we hope to avert," said Police coach Dismas Turatsinze.

The record five-time, 2018 Heroes Day and EAPCCO champions, beat APR in the first leg.

"We know that to be champions we have to win our last match or at least a draw," said Turatsinze.

Under the new handball rules, a win counts for three points while both a draw and loss goes for a single point.

Police won the 2014, 2015 and 2016 championships.
