The Rwanda National Police handball club has started preparations ahead of Sunday’s showdown in Coupe du Rwanda – Rwanda Cup – a tournament that will feature all the eleven local clubs.
The defending champions enters the tournament with high hopes of defending the cup it has won thrice – in 2011, 2012 and 2014 – owing to the fact that it has dominated almost all the local competitions in the last two years, so far winning seven trophies this season, including the recently added East and Central African Handball Federation Cup they won in a tournament held in Kigali.
Police Handball Club coach, Assistant inspector of Police (AIP) Antoine Ntabanganyimana, believes his time has all it takes to retain the Rwanda Cup, whose winner represents Rwanda in Africa Winners’ Cup.
“We started training last week, all players are in good shape and in high spirit to defend the cup,” AIP Ntabanganyimana said.
Sunday’s success would take the tally of Police’s trophy to 27 since 2003 when the club was formed, including four league cups.
