Police Handball Club are crowned 'Rwanda Cup' champs

The Rwanda National Police Handball Club added yet another trophy to their cabinet as they complete 2014 with their seventh cup after crushing APR handball club with 31 points to 24 in the Rwanda Cup tournament final played this Saturday at Kimisagara Youth Centre in Nyarugenge district.

The tournament involved clubs including defending champions Nyakabanda, and College of Education as well as finalists APR and Police.

On its way to the final, Police had eliminated Nyakabanda, while APR defeated College of Education to set up a juicy final.

The law enforcers have enjoyed a year of domination having earlier won tournaments including the national league, the Beach tournament, Labour Day Cup, Memorial Cup, Liberation Cup, Carré d’ AS cup and the Rwanda Cup tournament.

Police coach Antoine Ntabanganyimana, who guided the club to a fruitful season, said he had no doubt that the club would take the cup as they were well prepared despite facing strong clubs like APR.

“The players have worked hard to ensure that we win the tournament and am convinced that everyone is really happy of what the team has achieved this year,” AIP Ntabanganyimana said,

“We are happy for this trophy and for a historical season because we deserved to win all the trophies this season. I would like to thank Rwanda National Police for the support they have shown us this year and I take this opportunity to assure you that the club is ready to maintain the winning spirit by lifting even the international competitions.”
