Police FC win CECAFA Kagame Cup third place

The Rwanda National Police Football Club clinched third position on their debut appearance in the CECAFA Kagame Cup which ended in Kigali on August 24.

Police beat Uganda's KCCA 4-2 on penalty shootout at Amahoro stadium after a one-all draw in normal time.

Jimmy Mbaraga scored off a Daniel Opolot Isiagi's back pass in the first half to put the law enforcers in the lead but the tournament's top scorer, Brian Umony brought Uganda's city council back into the game in the second half thanks to a poor clearance by Police defenders in the box.

Cassa Mbugo's side squandered several chances in the second half that would have seen Police winning it before Somalis Mohamed Hassan's final whistle that took them straight to spot-kicks.

Jacques Tuyisenge, Jean D'Amour Uwimana, Fredrick Ndaka and Eric Ngendahimana converted their spot kicks in that order.

Brian Umony and Tom Masiko scored for KCCA but Police' goalkeeper Marcel Nzarora denied Habib Kavuma before Richard Kasagga hit the post.
