Police FC win 'Agaciro Development Fund' cup

Police Football club won the 2015 edition of the Agaciro Development Fund (AgDF) after edging out Sunrise 1-0 in the final match played on August 30 at Amahoro stadium.

New recruit, Hegman Ngomirakiza scored the lonely goal in the 25 minute of the first half after he tapped in a Rashid Karisa free kick that was awarded after a handball by a Sunrise defender.

There were a number of chances squandered in both halves that would have seen the law enforcers creating a big score margin.

Striker Innocent Twagirimana, who was substituted in the second half, missed three clear chances; two in the first minute of the game after through balls from defender,  Gabriel Mugabo.

A blunder and miscommunication between defender Mugabo and the goalkeeper in the second half came with luck after a Sunrise striker misused their only golden chance.

Police FC reached the final after eliminating Bugesera and APR respectively.

The President of Rwanda football federation (FERWAFA), Vincent Nzamwita said this tournament will be held annually as a "pre season tournament" and to continue building the spirit of dignity among Rwandans through football.

Nzamwita handed over a cheque of Rwf34.2 million Amb. Claver Gatete, the Minister for Finance, as this year's contribution to Agaciro Development Fund.

The funds were contributed by FERWAFA staff, referees, players and a those collected from matches during the entire tournament.

Amb. Gatete, who presented the trophy to the winner, thanked all clubs that took part in the tournament to cement home-grown initiatives as a response to the needs of Rwandans.

"This is a month that Rwandans celebrate their dignity as they continue to be an answer to their needs," Minister Gatete said.

He lauded the players for showcasing a patriotic spirit during the entire tournament and commended Police FC towards lifting the trophy.

The Minister said so far over Rwf27.4 billion has been put into the fund. This excludes the Rwf34.2 million donated by FERWAFA.
