Rwanda National Police (RNP) football club has officially unveiled 14 new players ahead of the 2015/2016 National Football League season set to start in September.
The new signings were unveiled by the Inspector General Police, Emmanuel K. Gasana on July 27 at Kicukiro artificial turf, during an event that also included giving them their shirt numbers.
The event also marked the club’s official start of the training in preparation for the new season.
The new players are; Mohamed Mushimiyimana formerly from AS Kigali before going to Hungry on recruitment, Anderson Neza from REFA academy in Spain, Robert Ndatimana and Issac Muganza both from Rayon Sport, APR pair of Hertier Turatsinze and Hegman Ngomirakiza, Danny Usengimana and Hakim Tuyisenge both from Isonga.
Others are Jean Marie Vianney Muvandimwe and Bwanakweri from Gicumbi, Jafet Irambona Hakizimana and Jean Paul Uwihoreye from Musanze and AS Kigali pair of Isaie Isonga and Patrick Umwungeri.
The club has also released ten players.
Addressing the players, IGP Gasana, who is also the Police FC honorary chairman, welcomed the new players and asked them to build a spirit of teamwork as key to good performance in upcoming local and regional football tournaments.
“There is no turning back; this is a new era of more trophies,” IGP Gasana said.
“You made us proud during the Peace Cup tournament, therefore, keep that winning spirit,” he added.
Police FC, which finished third on the national league table, won the Peace Cup after overcoming APR (1-1 win on away goal rule) and Rayon Sport (1—0) in semi-finals and finals respectively.
It will also represent the country in the CAF Confederation Cup next year.
The Police Chief said the force attaches “much value to sports” particularly football as one of the approaches it uses to link the force with the public.
He revealed that RNP is currently working on project to establish a facility camp to accommodate all players.
One of the new signings, Neza expressed his happiness to play for Police FC and appreciated the good leadership and the overall teamwork among the players.
“I am happy to be part of this great team. I am committed and ready to make Police FC the best and to win more silverware,” said Neza.
Meanwhile five Police FC players are currently part of the national team, Amavubi that left for friendly matches and apparently in South Africa where they will play the national team, Bafana Bafana.
