The law enforcers, Police Football Club beat Rwamagana-based Sunrise 2-1 at Mumena stadium on Thursday to book their ticket to the quarter finals of the Peace Cup.
After several squandered chances, Idesbarde Nshuti broke the deadlock in the 23rd minute to put the law enforcers in the lead through Innocent Habyarimana's corner kick.
Coach Cassa Mbungo’s hope to add more goals and consequently seal his place in the quarters, seemed a little bit shattered when Sunrise’s striker Jean d’amour Bunani equalized after he run passed the Police Defense.
Innocent Habyarimana scored the winning goal in the second half to guide Police FC to a much needed 2-1 victory over Sunrise FC.
Addressing journalist shortly after the match, Cassa Mbungo said, his players were well prepared both physically and mentally, which he attributed to the good performance displayed.
“The players entered into the game motivated to win. They were so good in terms of physique and mental spheres, this is why we managed to win this match,” said Mbungo.
Police will meet SC Kiyovu in the quarter finals.
