Police FC shift focus to national league

After guiding the debutant Police FC to third place in the just concluded CECAFA Kagame cup in Kigali, Coach Andre Cassa Mbugo has embarked on preparing ahead of the 2014/2015 national league which starts next month.

Mbugo who has lost only one match in six games since taking over as Police FC believes the experience gained from the annual regional tournament will boost their quest for their first silverware in the forthcoming Turbo Super League and other local football competitions.

Police FC beat Uganda’s KCCA 4-2 on spot kicks to pocket US$10, 000 and Cassa Mbugo hailed the performance and spirit of his players.

“We are very happy that we finished in third; we would have wanted to go farther and win the tournament. Nonetheless, as a team that is competing for the first time at the tournament, we did well,” Cassa Mbungo said

He attributed the success to the club’s management – Rwanda National Police – that supported them.

“I expect a very high result from players come next national league season. We will use CECAFA experience and we don’t expect to bring in a lot of new players since there is set up philosophy to field majority Rwandan players,” he said.
