A solitary goal from Mwemere Ngirinshuti overcame AS Kigali in the National Football and helped Police FC to edge closer towards the league leaders APR.
In the afternoon of February 27, Police FC played as under dogs against AS Kigali at a packed Nyamirambo Stadium. Whereas the game seemed poised evenly, it was Police FC that broke the deadlock, through a goal scored by Ngirinshuti in the 32nd minute.
Although AS Kigali tried to push for an equalizer, it was Police that got the better chances until the final whistle when the game ended 1-0 in favor of Police.
“This is an encouraging win. People thought we stood no chance against AS Kigali because they have had a fantastic season and are currently in second position behind APR. But my players dominated the game and won it convincingly,” Police FC head coach Andre Cassa Mbungo, said after the triumph.
“We will now focus on winning our next game and try to push for the title. We have a squad that is capable of being the best in the country.”
The win over AS Kigali moved Police into third place, just three points away from second placed AS Kigali and 10 points from first placed APR.
Recently on February 10, Police FC emerged second in the Prudence Cup Tournament and walked away with a prize of Rwf2 million.
The Police side proved the most resilient club in the two-day tournament, although it eventually lost out in the final to National League champions, APR FC, which walked away with the trophy and Rwf3 million.
