Police Football Club booked their place in the finals of Peace Cup after eliminating reigning champions, APR in an entertaining match played on July 1 at Kicukiro artificial tuff.
A goalless draw saw APR bowing out as Police went through on away goal advantage following a 1-1 draw in last weekend's first leg.
There were minimal chances at goal, although APR tried in vain to break the Police wall. At some occasions, APR's few chances at goal were denied by Police goalkeeper.
The law enforcers will now face Rayon Sports, who eliminated Isonga on 6-1 aggregate following a 4-0 score in return leg played on Tuesday. The finals will be played on the Liberation Day on July 4.
Police coach, Andre Cassa Mbugo praised his side for the resilience, despite encountering hiccups throughout the season.
"We lost major players at the start of the season and in the middle, yet the remaining players didn't lose hope. They kept fighting and here we are today...in the finals of the Peace Cup," Mbugo said.
"We managed to maintain the possession today. We played as a team, with focus. The finals won't be simple. Rayon Sport is another strong side but we will prepare well for that day and we have hope we will also prevail," Mbugo, who also won the Peace Cup with AS Kigali after beating APR, said.
Police captain, Jacques Tuyisenge, who didn't feature in the first leg said the team didn't "perform poorly based on the players we lost."
"Our focus now is on the final match and we are going to prepare ourselves well with the help of our managers and of course, the entire Rwanda National Police leadership that has always supported, will be there to ensure that we triumph and win the cup," Tuyisenge said.
