The 2018/2019 Azam Rwanda Football League entered the second day this Friday when Police FC hosted Espoir of Rusizi at Nyamirambo stadium.
Having had a bad start of the new season with a 2-1 loss away to Muhanga, it looked like the same nightmare was yet again befalling the law enforcers when they found themselves a goal down early in the first half when the visitors converted a penalty in the 20th minute following a handball inside the box.
This was, however, like a wake up call; it was not far before Police forward Isaie Songa responded to put the host at level two minutes to the final whistle of the first half after a chance presented to him by a defensive error; neither Muhanga FC goallie could do anything.
The second half was quit different and a one sided match; It was a rain of goals.
New signing Peter Otema put Police in front in the 64th minute before another new face in the team Ishimwe Kevin utilised Amidu Ndayisaba's cross to put his name on the score sheet to make it 3-1, just three minutes after being introduced by the Zambian Albert Joel Mpfande to replace Arafat Bahame in midfield.
Isaie Songa headed in Mpozembizi Mohamed's cross to score his second of the match in the 70th minute to make it 4-1.
With just two minutes to the last whistle Jean Paul Uwimbabazi made a deadly attack on the weak and leaking defense of Muhanga winning a penalty after he was brought down inside the box, and Mohamed Mushimiyimana made no mistake to make it 5-1, the final and highest score of the league so far.
Mpfande was "happy for the comeback."
“The changes in the second half were tactical, we were losing balls in the first half and we looked vulnerable in midfield, it all worked well and we got the win we deserved," the Zambian said.
Police FC will be looking to build on this massive win when they face Gicumbi FC on October 30
away in the Northern Province.
