Police FC booked its tickets for the semi finals of the ongoing Agaciro Development Fund tournament after eliminating APR 4-2 in penalty shootouts on August 19 at FERWAFA ground.
Midfielder Rachid Kalisa opened the scoring for Police FC early in the first half but Patrick Sibomana equalised for the APR side few minutes later.
Police attacked with intent through both flanks with captain Jacques Tuyisenge and Innocent Habyarimana manning the right and left wings, respectively.
At half time, Police FC head coach André Cassa Mbungo made ten changes to introduce new players, but this didn’t yield anything in normal time for the ‘Peace Cup’ winners at least not until penalty kicks.
Coach Cassa Mbugo said: “APR is a strong side with a number of its players featuring on the national team, but what matters is that we managed to pull ourselves together to go through to the stage.”
He added: “We signed 16 new players and this is the time to evaluate their performance.”
Police FC reached the quarter finals after beating Bugesera 1-0. They will this Saturday face-off with Musanze FC who beat Etincelles 1-0.
The winner between Police and Musanze will tussle it with the winner between Rayon Sports and Sunrise.
It is the second time in row that the law enforcers have eliminated APR from a tournament after the former went through to the finals of the Peace Cup in an away goal advantage when they drew 1-1 and the return leg ended goalless.
Police FC won the Peace Cup after overcoming Rayon Sports 1-0.
