Police FC eyes second trophy ahead of National football league

Police FC has been hyped as a serious contender to lift the Agaciro Development Cup, after overcoming Bugesera FC BY 1-0 last Saturday.

Mwemere Ngirinshuti scored the only goal of the game in the 75th minute, as Police FC dug deep to overcome the newly promoted side.

The team headed by Andre Cassa Mbungo will play their next game against league champions - APR FC - this Wednesday, as they seek to collect their second trophy of the year, after lifting the Peace Cup.

The Spokesperson of Police FC, Chief Inspector of Police (CIP) Jean de Dieu Mayira, said that Police will focus this tournament as a training opportunity for the players, in order to be in shape ahead of the forthcoming national league, expected to kick off on August 19.

“The Agaciro Development is a serious cup – and it has come at a time when our players need some good competition to put them in shape ahead of the national league. The players are ambitious and want to win everything,” he said.

“All our players will get an opportunity to showcase their importance to club, as well as, prepare themselves for the physical and mental requirements of a long season ahead.”

Last month, Police lifted their maiden Peace Cup title following their 1-0 late winner over rivals Rayon Sports at Amahoro Stadium.

The club signed 16 new players and released 12 others as it prepares to race for the national league title.

Police FC will also represent Rwanda in the 2016 CAF Confederations Cup.
