Police FC ease through to ‘Anti-corruption cup’ finals

Defending champions, Police FC scored in each of the sides to beat and eliminate Rayon Sport 2-1 from the ‘Anti-corruption cup’ in a match played on December 6 in a fully parked Amahoro Stadium and to set their encounter with AS Kigali in the finals.

The law enforcer’s dominance in the first half paid off on the 31 minute when Jimmy Mbaraga slotted in a cross from the right winger to put Police in the lead.

Rayon sport equalized through Faustin Usengimana at the start of the second half but Coach Cassa Mbugo’s tactical substitution of three players including Innocent Habyarimana and Idesbald Nshuti paid off in the 81 minute when the former tapped in the ball after a Jimmy Mbaraga’s shot hit the bar and bounced back to find the winger in the box, making it 2-1.

Police also beat Rayon Sport 2-1 in the 2013 ‘Anti-corruption cup’ finals to lift the trophy.

They will now face AS Kigali, who earlier eliminated APR FC 3-1 in penalty shoot-out after they drew 1-1 in normal time.

The winner of this cup dedicated to fighting corruption in Rwanda also gets a cash prize of Rwf3 million which the runner’s up gets Rwf2 million.
