Police in Nyanza District has conducted a public destruction of 900 liters of illicit brew as part of an awareness against drugs abuse and to deter the residents from engaging in the trade of the harmful liquor.

The products were seized during a targeted operation conducted in Kigarama cell of Busasamana sector on December 18.

The District Police Commander, Senior Supt. of Police (SSP), Francis Muheto, lauded the public for providing timely information to Police that led the seizure of the illicit brew.

“We need to work together, share information on individuals involved in this habit and protect our population against eh consumption of this illicit brew which has very adverse effects on people’s health,” SSP Muheto, said.

"On top of being health hazards, illicit brew and drugs fuel criminal acts like theft and domestic violence, and that's why they have to be fought against by every citizen," he added.

Arthur Ndorimana the Busasamana Sector Executive Secretary lauded Police for the advice and urged the residents to cooperate with Police in order to ensure safety and security.
