The Minister of Internal security, Sheikh Musa Fazil Harelimana has commended the existing Police-public cooperation against crimes but called for strengthened efforts towards crime prevention other than fighting.
The Minister said this on April 28 while presiding over the Rwanda National Police ‘High Council’ held at the force’s headquarters in Kacyiru.
The Police high Council held quarterly, is the RNP supreme organ which brings together commissioners and senior police officers heading departments, schools and units, Regional and District Police Commanders, among others, to review the security status, implementation of policies and how deal with policing challenges that still exist.
“The liberation struggle continues towards sustainable development and Police’s role is vital to lay firm foundation towards this noble path,” Minister Harelimana said.
He challenged officers to uphold discipline, Rwandan values and keep-up the spirit of patriotism and engage more in activities that respond to the needs of the public as a proactive force.
The meeting discussed, among others, internal Policing strategies, challenges, international cooperation and development.
The Inspector General of Police, Emmnuel K. Gasana urged the officers to put much emphasis in the implementation of the force’s ten priority plans.
The priority areas include community policing, force discipline and crime reduction.
Others include E-policing, Media in policing, Police welfare and international cooperation.
The Police chief also urged officers to refrain from anything that might tarnish the force’s esteem like corruption.
