Police commends public participation in firefighting

Rwanda National Police (RNP) has commended the selfless input of citizens who endeavor to report to Police whenever there is a fire outbreak.

The message stems from an incident on February 5 in Kagarama Sector, Kicukiro District, where Police managed to put out a fire in time before it spread out to cause harm to people or destroy property.

The fire which started in a forest estimated to be 1.5 hectares surrounding a Genocide Memorial could have become more dangerous if residents in the area hadn’t informed Police on time, according to Central Region Police Spokesperson, Superintendent Mbabazi Modeste.

“It is suspected that two boys started the fire and run away into hiding. The people who saw it first immediately reported to Police and we were able to deploy firefighters at the scene at once, who were successful in putting it out,” he said.

“Through community Policing, collaborating with Police through information sharing is a commendable act that has bolstered RNP’s reaction to dangers that the citizens face.”

The Fire and Rescue Brigade at RNP has skilled firefighters and firefighting trucks, which are well equipped with modern tools and technology to extinguish fires in as little time as possible.
