The Rwanda National Police (RNP) traffic and road safety department has clarified that the online registration system is currently closed adding that the department is apparently conducting tests for those who registered in September, across the country.

The spokesperson of the traffic department, Chief Inspector of Police (CIP) Emmanuel Kabanda noted that under the new arrangements, registration for candidates that sits for tests in the period of three months is done at once and that successful candidates are given codes indicating a specific month a candidate will do the tests.

“We opened the first registration in September for those who are currently doing the tests. We allocated specific codes and all successful candidates across the country with the code of ‘RT’ will do the tests in this October,” CIP Kabanda said.

 “For the candidates that will do the tests in November, the code is ‘RU’ while all those with the code of ‘RX’ will sit for the tests in December,” he added.

He, however, noted that due to the overwhelming number of driver’s license seekers in the City of Kigali, two more slots were availed to accommodate the big number.

“This means that in Kigali, those with the Code of ‘RV’ will sit for their tests in the special second shift to be conducted in the last week of October; those with ‘RW’ code, they will do their tests in the last week of November,” he clarified.

“We urge the candidates to note these codes because they inform them on when and where they will do their tests,” he said.

CIP Kabanda, however, disclosed that the next registration phase for those who will sit for the tests in January, February and March next year, will be opened in December.

“We have received complaints from driver’s license seekers failing to register. The system is currently closed and no one should lie to you that they can facilitate you to register. Registration is done individually by a candidate, not even a driving school has right or can succeed to register on behalf of a candidate. Whoever charges money to help you to register will be treated as fraud,” he warned.
