Police calls on youth to watch out for human traffickers

Rwanda National Police (RNP) joined local authorities to warn youth against the cunning methods used by human traffickers to lure unsuspecting victims into the modern slavery abroad.

The call was made on Friday 12, December in Kicukiro, during a meeting that attracted close to 500 youth, organized by the Fabrice Ndayisaba Foundation under the theme: “Stop Trafficking of Children. They are the Future of Rwanda”.

The Foundation organizes debates and events for young people aged between five and 18 years.

“The danger of human trafficking is real and Police will do everything possible to ensure that our young people and population at large are protected. Young people must keep away from strangers who promise heaven on earth and in the end sell them into inhumane activities,” Chief Superintendent of Police Ngondo, told the gathering.

“Secondly, you should concentrate on your academics and desist from bad habits like the consumption of drugs, which might derail you from achieving your goals. Remember always to conduct yourselves as the future of Rwanda.”

The Mayor of Kicukiro, Jules Ndamage, who was the Guest of Honor, told the youth that they should be vigilant and ensure that their actions are productive for the general good of Rwandans.

“If your friends go astray, return them to the right path. Don’t allow any of your peers to get involved into drug abuse or violence because it might destroy their lives and yet they are essential in the development of Rwanda,” he said.

The fruitful discussions culminated into a laudable debate where the youth presented several questions to their leaders about their role in society and the work that government has done so far in ensuring that the youth have a platform to perform their duties.
