Rwanda National Police has called on dog owners to be strict on the movements of their pets in order to safeguard the public against their attacks.

The call follows an incident in Kirehe District where a dog attacked three children and inflicted violent bite wounds on them. The dog which was believed to be mad was killed by locals and the children were rushed to hospital for medical help.

“Dog owners must be careful and always know the whereabouts of their animals. Some of these animals need training and vaccination, but some owners take such vital issues for granted,” Inspector of Police Emmanuel Kayigi, spokesperson for the Eastern region, said.

He also reminded dog owners to make sure the dog is on a leash whenever they are walking with them in public in order to avoid sudden attacks on people.
