Rwanda National Police has the mandate of safeguarding the security of people and their property and that includes safety on roads.
A number of lives are lost as a result of traffic accidents most of which are caused by recklessness, over speeding, drunk driving and utter ignorance of the basic traffic regulations by the drivers. This is unacceptable.
It has been noticed that most commercial motorcycle operators and vehicles who don’t stop when asked by traffic officers actually lack driving documents such as licence, insurance and mechanical inspection certificate, the essential requirements before hitting the road.
Such malpractices have become common with drivers and motorcyclists, sometimes contributing to road accidents.
There is also another common tendency of people who borrow motorcycles and most of them have been found without driving licence.
This is an indication of of carelessness, first from the owner of the motorcycle for giving the automobile to unqualified individual.
These are the same people who don't stop when asked.
Police urges motorcycle owners to monitor closely motorcyclists they employ and warn them against lending motorbikes.
This are actions that can't be tolerated and those caught in such acts will be dealt with accordingly.
