Police arrests two with forged currency

Police in Kigali has arrested two men, Barajiginywa Mushimiyimana and Faustin Habumugisha, with counterfeit currency. The two were however arrested in separate cases.

Mushimiyimana, was arrested in, Kicukiro district after issuing forged notes to a Tigo Cash electronic money transfer. He is held at Kicukiro Police station pending further investigation.

The second suspect, Habumugisha was arrested in Nyarugenge district. He was arrested after issuing fake notes to a vendor. He is held at Nyamirambo Police station pending further investigation.

Central Region Spokesperson, Senior Superintendent Urbain Mwiseneza urged the public to abstain from such criminal activities.

He advised the public to verify any currency issued to avoid falling prey of counterfeiters.  “Counterfeit is treacherous to the economy and also affects family and personal income,” Senior Superintendent Mwiseneza observed.

If anyone is found guilty, Article 604 of the Rwandan penal code provides for a two to five-year sentence and a fine of two to ten times the value of the counterfeit money.
