Police arrests Cameroonian over forgery

Police in Nyarugenge District is holding a Cameroonian National identified as Thierry Rostand for allegedly cashing two forged US 100 Dollar notes. The suspect was has been living in Grace Apartment in Nyarugenge. He was also found with many small pieces of papers and liquid which he reportedly used to fabricate the dollars.

Mr. Rostand is currently detained at Muhima Police Station. Police was tipped off by a resident who knew about the suspect’s illegal activity.

The resident, who runs a clothing shop in Nyamirambo, reported to Police after Mr. Rostand approached him soliciting partnership or help him get partners in the crime.

The Central Region Spokesperson Senior Superintendent, Urbain Mwiseneza praised the resident for such a courageous act to prevent a crime.

He however urged citizens, particularly the business community, to remain vigilant and play part in fighting such crimes.

Article 604 of the Rwandan Penal Code stipulates that, any person, who counterfeits uses or circulates, by any means, items misrepresented as money or negotiable instruments shall be liable to a term of imprisonment of two years to five years and a fine of two to ten times the value of the counterfeit money.
