Rwanda National police has arrested 64 idlers in Nyarugenge district in a targeted operation. Senior Superintendent Urbain Mwiseneza, the central region spokesperson, the operation was meant to curb crime in the city, especially drug abuse, robbery and burglary.
Arrested individuals did not posses Identification Cards. According to SS Mwiseneza said majority of those arrested are jobless and unskilled youths from rural areas loitering around the city. They will be sent back to their areas of origin others will be taken to a rehabilitation center to acquire skills and counseling.
Meanwhile, the operation was extended to Kayonza, and Rulindo district where 132Kgs of smuggled Coltan and 11 liters of Kanyanga (local gin) were confiscated.
Officers also seized and destroyed 52 boules of cannabis, 19 bottles of smuggled Uganda Waragi and 880 liters of local brew.
