Police in Nyamasheke District has arrested eight people said to be involved in various theft-related crimes in the area, including stealing motorcycles.
The suspects, who are currently detained at Ruharambuga Police station, were arrested separately in Nyamasheke and Rusizi districts on Monday.
Police also recovered a motorcycle registration number RB 058T, belonging to Strive Foundation, which was stolen from Mwezi Parish in Nyamasheke on Sunday night.
Three of the suspects were arrested in Rusizi, where they were trying to sell the recovered motorcycle.
Police in Rusizi said they arrested the trio red-handed in Kamembe Sector as they were trying to sell the stolen motorcycle, after they received credible information from members of the public.
Among those arrested are also security guards, who are said to be conniving and aiding thieves to steal goods in premises under their protection.
Supt. Jules Rutayisire, Nyamasheke District Police Commander appealed to institutions to always hire trustworthy guards from recognized private security firms to avoid such incidences.
He thanked the public for their continued cooperation in providing information, which he said in most cases lead to the arrest of wrongdoers.
